Text is for Titles, that’s Good Enough For Me

There’s a constant battle between those of us who believe the value of a website is in being read and those who believe that a beautiful website has value in and of itself. To be more clear, this is a battle between search engine optimizers and the designers we hire. The one issue that comes up in virtually every skirmish is whether to render page titles in text or graphics. Needless to say, the SEO crowd always wants text, the designers always want graphics.

(Parenthetically, the blogging revolution has actually made this argument much easier on the SEO side. If you’re debating whether your site needs graphics or text all you have to say is “we’re adding a new page every hour” and you’ll win the argument.)

Anyway, that’s a long-winded way of linking to this article describing how to use font treatments on text using server-side scripting. Cool stuff.
